NutraFormula Awards recognizes supplement formulations whose documented design meets published criteria for rationale, evidence alignment, dosage logic, safety, quality planning, labeling clarity, and responsible communication.
Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. There is no application fee. Recognition is based on satisfying the criteria, not on winning a fixed number of places in an annual competition.
What the program reviews
The review concerns a defined formulation record and version. It examines:
- whether the formula is identified completely enough to review;
- the intended population, purpose, format, and conditions of use;
- the rationale for active ingredients and the combination;
- the relevance and quality of cited evidence;
- the basis for amounts, serving, timing, and duration;
- material safety considerations and label communication;
- the ingredient and finished-product quality plan;
- consistency among formula, label, claims, and submitted evidence.
The Market-Ready Formulation track can address a fully defined formula before commercial distribution. The Marketed Product track can address the current formula, label, and supporting records for a named product. The registry identifies the track.
What recognition means
Recognition means that the submitted record for the named formulation and version met the published criteria as of the decision date and within the listed scope. The public registry states the basis, limitations, criteria version, term, and current status.
What recognition does not mean
NutraFormula recognition is not:
- FDA or other government approval;
- a finding that a product prevents, treats, or cures disease;
- a guarantee of safety, efficacy, quality, compliance, or consumer outcome;
- certification of a company, facility, quality system, supplier, manufacturing lot, or product portfolio;
- independent laboratory testing unless the registry names the test and its scope;
- approval of advertising beyond the claims reviewed;
- transferable to a reformulation, private-label variant, or related product.
No pay-to-win condition
Applicants are not required to:
- be ASA members;
- sponsor an ASA activity;
- advertise with ASA;
- attend an event;
- buy consulting, promotion, or a license package;
- pay an application fee.
Material relationships between ASA and an applicant or recipient are disclosed when they could affect how the public interprets recognition. Reviewer compensation, if any, is fixed independently of the result.
How review works
- Scope and completeness: ASA verifies applicant authority, formula identity, track, required evidence, and terms.
- Conflict screening: Qualified reviewers are matched to the subject and screened for relevant interests.
- Independent assessment: Reviewers evaluate gateway and weighted criteria against the current rubric.
- Clarification: ASA may request focused information or a limited correction.
- Decision check: A decision lead or panel reviews consistency and resolves material divergence.
- Notice and registry: A recognized record is published after factual verification and mark acceptance.
Recognition term and change control
Recognition is active for 24 months from the decision date or until a material change, suspension, withdrawal, revocation, or earlier stated expiry. The recipient must report material changes to formula, ingredient form or source, amounts, use, claims, quality plan, responsible entity, safety record, or regulatory status.
ASA decides whether a change can be recorded administratively, needs limited review, requires a new application, or calls for interim suspension. Renewal uses the current criteria and remains free to apply for under the program model.
Decisions and reconsideration
Possible decisions are Recognized, Recognized after a specified pre-publication correction, Deferred pending defined evidence or scope resolution, or Not recognized. An applicant can request reconsideration for material factual error, evidence submitted on time but overlooked, inconsistent rubric application, reviewer conflict, or material procedural failure.
The program does not publish declined applicants.
Public verification
Every active recognition has a stable registry record. A logo, certificate image, social post, retailer page, or applicant statement is not sufficient verification.
Report a concern
ASA may review recognition based on a material change, credible safety or regulatory information, misrepresentation, mark misuse, failure to cooperate, or evidence that the criteria were not met. Registry status can be placed Under Review, Suspended, Expired, Withdrawn, or Revoked.
