Safety and Market Integrity

ASA supports responsible systems for safety information, product identity, accurate claims, record integrity, and corrective action. ASA’s role is limited: it does not replace emergency services, health professionals, manufacturers’ reporting duties, or public authorities.

If there is an immediate health emergency

Contact emergency services or an appropriate healthcare professional. Do not wait for an ASA response. In the United States, call 911 for an emergency.

Product safety and adverse events

Consumers and health professionals should report a suspected serious problem through the responsible company and the appropriate government channel. Companies remain responsible for the adverse-event obligations that apply to them.

ASA may consider de-identified or appropriately handled information when it is relevant to a member, program, policy, or systemic issue. Submitting information to ASA is not a substitute for a legally required report.

Matters ASA can review

ASA’s process may address:

  • possible misuse of ASA’s name, member status, or marks;
  • inaccurate public directory information;
  • a possible Code violation by a current member;
  • a material error in an ASA publication;
  • undisclosed conflict or funding related to ASA work;
  • suspected misuse of NutraFormula recognition;
  • information that may affect the current status of an ASA award record;
  • conduct in an ASA meeting, event, committee, or service.

ASA determines jurisdiction and appropriate action. It does not promise a private remedy, product refund, medical conclusion, or government enforcement.

Product and market concerns outside ASA authority

Questions about refunds, warranties, private contracts, personal injury, medical treatment, and legal rights should be directed to the responsible organization and qualified advisors or authorities. ASA does not adjudicate ordinary commercial disputes.

How ASA handles a concern

  1. A secure intake records the subject, record, evidence, and reporter contact or anonymity choice.
  2. ASA screens for emergency, mandatory reporting, jurisdiction, conflicts, and preservation needs.
  3. The responsible function determines whether clarification, correction, information request, policy review, membership review, award review, or referral is appropriate.
  4. Affected parties receive notice and an opportunity to respond when required and practicable.
  5. The authorized body records the finding and outcome.
  6. Public status is corrected when necessary to prevent misunderstanding.

Confidentiality is limited by law, safety, fair process, and the need to explain a public record accurately. Retaliation for a good-faith report is prohibited under ASA rules.

Verifying an ASA status

Use the Member Directory to verify current public membership and the Award Registry to verify NutraFormula recognition. Absence from a public directory may reflect consent or publication status; contact ASA before drawing a conclusion.
